Abu Dhabi, 6 May 2007(WAM)-- As part of an ambitious expansionplan to grow from a local courier company to an worldwide integratedtotal logistics solutions provider, Empost launched its scheduledfreighter operations today, declaring Al Ain International Airport asits regional hub The maiden Empost scheduled freighter flight, an airbus 300,landedsafely at the Al Ain International airport carrying 44 tons of airfreight.
Empost, a subsidiary of Emirates Post, is a federal governmentowned courier service provider and was set up ten years ago.
Addressing a gathering at the airport, Director General Of EmiratesPost and Chairman of Empost Abdullah Al Daboos said that the launchingmarks the beginning of a new chapter in the transformation of the localcourier company to an international freighter operator, thus making ita total logistics solutions provider.
Empost becomes the first scheduled freighter operator to chooseAl Ain International Airport as its regional hub. The airport , fullyequipped to handle large volumes of cargo, is strategically located, withAbu Dhabi and Dubai connected with expressways and are reachable in anhour's time.
"It is a moment to witness yet another local enterprise reachan important landmark in its journey of expansion. While Emirates andEtihad have been a success story, Empost will follow suit" Al Daboos said.
Empost Scheduled freighter operations debut flight has been partof a long term plan including a fleet expansion of 50 aircrafts by year2012. The operations will be implemented in four phases networking majorin the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Europe by the end of 2008.
During the first phase, Empost freighter will operate six flightsa week from Dhaka to Al Ain and onward via Istanbul to Amsterdam.
While Al Ain will be the main hub of freighter operations of Empost,the European sector will be connected through its regional hub in Amsterdam.
With operations in Asia, Africa, Europe and now the Americas,Empost is becoming a thriving international firm capable of competingwith other firms in the industry.
