Dubai: Abu Dhabi-based retailer Emke Group, which operates one of the largest retail chains in the region, yesterday opened its 57th shopping centre in the Al Rai area of Kuwait, a company statement said.

The company invested Dh160 million in the hypermarket, located in the Dream Mall complex.

The hypermarket was inaugurated by a member of the ruling family, Shaikh Ali Al Sabah. Also present were other members of the ruling family, government officials, Indian Ambassador M. Ganapathy and other dignitaries.

The spaciously designed supermarket section welcomes the customers to the ground floor of the hypermarket with the widest range of fresh vegetables, meat, food and household goods.

"We have invested heavily in the latest imported equipment and amenities to make it the best shopping experience for discerning shoppers of Kuwait," Yousuf Ali MA, managing director of Emke Group, said.

"We have dedicated counters for products from different parts of the world to cater to the cosmopolitan population of this great country."

Emke Group, with operations in 16 countries, has more than 15,000 employees from 28 countries. The group will be opening nine more hypermarkets and shopping malls in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and India in 2007.
