Emirates has launched a new mobile initiative that allows its customers to book their flights through their phones.
Mobile Emirates.com, which has been designed to work on nearly 3,000 mobile handsets, will allow passengers to make bookings through their phone's web browser.
The new functionality will ensure the Emirates website is downloaded in the appropriate format for each specific mobile device, allowing customers to perform a multitude of tasks including booking and managing a flight, mobile check-in, searching flight schedules and status and even checking the in-flight amenities available on a specific flight.
Russell Sheldon, Emirates Senior Vice-President, Network Sales and Passenger Development, said: "Consumers are far more mobile than ever before. There is a constant need for products and services to cater to the fast-paced lifestyle that today's individuals lead, people want it here and now. Mobile search has become one of the fastest growing activities on the internet and as one of the foremost innovative airlines, the move to allow passengers to quickly and conveniently book their tickets through their mobile phone was a natural one."
Customers must have an internet enabled device to access Mobile Emirates.com. Once they log on to Emirates.com they will be automatically redirected to the mobile optimised version of the website. The site will be available worldwide in English only.
In a bid to facilitate and simplify travel needs of passengers, last week Emirates also launched its 'purchase your UAE visa online' initiative. Valid Emirates ticket holders from 35 select countries are now eligible to purchase 96-hour and 30-day visit visas to Dubai through Emirates.com, subject to all pre-requisites being met, which are set by the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department.
