New Delhi Emaar MGF Land, the joint venture property development company formed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties and India’s MGF Land, continues to create ripples on the subcontinent.
After being probed for corruption and construction deficiencies involving the Commonwealth Games Village, the company finds itself facing fresh allegations relating to irregularities in another land deal.
India’s Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy yesterday defended an April 2009 deal under which the Delhi Development Authority paid Emaar MGF Rs7.6 billion (Dh629.6 million) to enable it to complete the Games Village. He said he was not consulted on the deal but supported it. Emaar has denied any irregularity in the deal.
At the same time, Indian parties, including a section of the ruling Congress, want the Andhra Pradesh state government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into what they call a “land scam” in the development of the Boulder Hills project in association with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
