Muscat - The Electricity Holding Company (EHC) and Veolia Environnement have decided to set up a joint venture to establish the Utilities Centre for Competency Development (UCCD). 

The agreement was signed in Muscat on Sunday.

The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of Mohammed al Mahrouqi, chairman of EHC and chairman of Public Authority for Electricity and Water, and attended by senior officials from EHC and Veolia.

Under this agreement, EHC group of companies and Veolia will collaborate to source and offer tailor-made training solutions for the electricity and water sectors. Through the establishment of the centre, EHC will contribute to the development of Omani talent through the provision of bespoke competency assessments and training programmes.

The UCCD will equip and inspire Omani companies to practice the highest standards of the profession, develop their capacities in water and energy and encourage Omanis to realise their full potential, a press release said.

"We aim to introduce essential training programmes for the purpose of developing the competency of our Omani workforce. This initiative also reinforces our continued commitment to Omanisation through the provision of consistent, cost effective and high quality training solutions," said Eng Omar al Wahaibi, CEO of EHC.

"Veolia is very proud to collaborate with EHC on this new initiative. This centre for competency development is a first of its kind in the sultanate and we are confident that these joint efforts can bring great value and benefit to the local community," said Xavier Joseph, Veolia Environnement's CEO for the GCC.
