BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Egypt has issued around 22 million Egyptian pounds ($3.8 million) of new paper and coin currency as part of its monetary policy for 2007, Cairo-based Al Ahram reported Wednesday.

Finance Minister Yousef Ghali said a plan by the public treasury for 2007 entails expanding coin currency to reach a target of EGP3 per person.

He also said the public treasury achieved a surplus in revenues in 2006 at EGP10.26 million, according to the paper. It didn't give more details.
