MUSCAT -- The e-Payment system of Oman Arab Bank, which is operational at 200 Sanad centres, will be installed at another 200 centres shortly. Of the 480 Sanad Service Centres in the country, shortly 400 will be covered by this cutting-edge e-Payment system which has proved to be a boon for the Sanad centres in the country, Abdul Kader Askalan, CEO, Oman Arab Bank, told the Observer.
For the past three years Oman Arab Bank has been working very closely with these Sanad centres and providing them with all necessary support to ensure the system they have are functioning with the minimum interruptions. OAB even announced a yearly competition prize for Sanad Centres and the first event was successfully held in last May.
"In addition, we announced a points system for the Sanad centres to encourage them to use electronic systems to receive payments more frequently," said Askalan. The Sanad (Self-employment and National Autonomous Development) programme, launched in 2001 to develop self-employment avenues for the young job-seeking Omanis, has been a huge success and continues to growth with new government progammes to further develop and expand it.
In recent times, the Ministry of Manpower allowed Sanad Service Centres to handle the work permit applications, including the issue and renewal of labour cards and visas for expatriates. Sanad Centres also undertake e-services related to the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI), Royal Oman Police (ROP), Muscat Municipality, and other billing and collection agencies.
In the growing portfolio of services of the Sanad Service Centres, the e-Payment of system of Oman Arab Bank plays a key role. The bank is keen to further develop and expand this system to Sanad Centres in their bid to serve the nation and also diversify their sources of personal income.
OAB has pioneered the electronic payment system in Oman to support the Omani government with its automation initiatives. The bank started the first e-Payment system by signing up with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry then followed by the Ministry of Manpower and Royal Oman Police back in the year 2003. During this nine years period the system provided by Oman Arab Bank has proved to be successful, secured and convenient for all participants from individuals to corporate client and the government organisations involved.
This outstanding success has brought the confidence necessary to further deploy the system on a larger scale across government offices and expanding it as the most adequate e-Payment system for the Sanad initiative where the government was eagerly looking for ways to launch the Sanad centres and provide them with the necessary support.
