Dubai: The sale of e-Dirham at the main post offices of Emirates Post has evoked a good response from customers, as it enables them to buy e-Dirham cards to complete government transactions.

All main post offices in the UAE offer the facility of sale and re-charge of e-Dirham cards. The service was launched last October, following an agreement between the UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry and Emirates Post.

Factors like extended timings and convenient locations of post offices have attracted an increased number of customers, especially in far-flung areas of the UAE. People can now buy e-Dirham cards from the nearest post office, instead to going to selected government offices.

"Emirates Post is committed to promoting e-Dirham as part of our efforts to boost eGovernment in the UAE," said Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post.

"Right now the service is available only in main post offices, but following the huge response, we plan to extend it to other post offices across the UAE."

e-Dirham can be purchased at the following main post offices: Abu Dhabi Central, Dubai Central, Deira Main, Sharjah Central, Ajman Central, Umm Al Quwain Central, Ras Al Khaimah Central, Fujairah Central and Al Ain Central.

New Year holiday timings
Emirates Post has announced that postal services would be available only at main post offices from 9am to 1 pm during the Islamic New Year holiday tomorrow.

However, collection of mail from street boxes will be as usual.
