The $1bn Dukhan Township development is in a "very advanced stage" with nearly 90% of the work based on a comprehensive masterplan already completed, said Ahmed Saif al-Sulaiti, QP operations manager (Dukhan Fields).
"Our masterplan has been revised in line with the vision of HH the Emir. The development works will continue for a few more years," al-Sulaiti told Gulf Times.
He said the development works that began in 2002 had resulted in a "total upgrade" of the facilities in the Dukhan Township, owned by Qatar Petroleum.
"We now have a world-scale infrastructure in Dukhan. Dukhan now is a model township," al-Sulaiti said.
QP provides infrastructure, services, social, recreational, civic and business facilities for the entire community in the Dukhan Township, concession and the neighbouring areas.
There are hundreds of housing units within Dukhan Township with separate ones for married and bachelor staff.
On the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project at Dukhan, he said the studies "were still not complete".
The EOR project is meant to boost production at the onshore oilfield.
"Studies are still being carried out...once these are completed then we will be able to determine what sort of recovery method is going to be used," al-Sulaiti said.
Dukhan, which is located more than 80km from Doha on Qatar's west coast, gained significance due to the discovery of crude oil. The oil exploration in Dukhan fields began in 1935 and the first well was drilled in 1940.
The first shipment of crude oil was exported from Qatar on December 31, 1949.
Besides crude oil, Dukhan produces associated gas, condensate and non-associated gas.
The various operations and activities in the Dukhan oil field, which extends over an area of approximately 640sq km, are managed and conducted by Qatar Petroleum.
Dukhan oil field has facilities to produce up to 335,000 barrels per day (bpd).
However, the actual annual production is based on reservoir management requirements, according to QP.
Dukhan Field has a total of 300 oil-producing wells, 182 water injection wells and 58 gas-producing and injector wells.
In Dukhan Field, crude oil is produced from Arab-C, Arab-D and Uwainat reservoirs, according to QP.
The production facilities are located in Khatiyah, Fahahil and Jaleha sectors.
Oil and associated gas are separated at four main (Khatiyah North, Khatiyah Main, Fahahil Main and Jaleha) and three remote (Khatiyah South, Fahahil North and Fahahil South) degassing stations.
