Dubai, Feb 05th, 2009 (WAM): Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured today the Carpet and Arts Oasis, where he came across a number of rare pictures that trace Dubai's history of development back into a hundred years.

Organised in cooperation with the Dubai Customs as a signature event of the Dubai Shopping Festival, the Carpet Oasis is a spectacular display of carpets, rugs, and handicrafts from around the world. The exhibition, located at Airport Expo Dubai, features some of the finest and rarest handmade carpets, and displays several valuable pictures for the first time.

Sheikh Majid was received by Juma' al Majid, Chairman of the Dubai Economic Council, Ibrahim Bu Melha, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs Adviser to Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other officials.

Sheikh Majid went around various stalls of the exhibition, where exquisite hand-woven products from regions renowned for carpet-making such as Iran, Pakistan, India, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan are displayed.

Sheikh Majid then visited the wing where several pictures and rare documents are displayed. A number of pictures, which trace back the history the emirate's development across a century, date back to 1883 and are displayed for the first.

The exhibition also showcases old seals and other instruments used by the Dubai customs several decades ago.
