AMMAN (JT) -- A major fundraising event was held in Dubai recently for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF).
The money raised will go towards upgrading both the adult and paediatric intensive care units in the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) with the latest state of the art medical technology, according to a statement released by the foundation.
More than 650 guests attended the gala dinner on November 21, held under the patronage and in the presence of HRH Princess Haya.
Their Royal Highnesses Prince Talal and Princess Ghida, and Prince Mired and HRH Princess Dina, KHCF director general, as well as Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan, director general of the King Hussein Cancer Centre also attended the fundraiser.
"The importance of this fundraiser and the support we have received cannot be over-estimated. It is a strong demonstration of regional support for a vital, regional centre that helps save hundreds of patients' lives from all over the Arab world," said Princess Ghida, KHCF chairperson.
The gala dinner, the foundation's first event in the UAE, was presented by British television presenter Tania Bryer, and included an oriental music performance by celebrated Jordanian violinist Jihad Akl and the Dubai Drums band.
Six items, including an Ottoman illumination donated by Sheikh Mohammad Ben Rashed Al Maktoum and Princess Haya, were auctioned at the dinner.
The event was sponsored by Abraaj Capital, Arab Bank, Arabtec Construction, CICON Building Materials, Dubai International Capital, Jordan Dubai Capital, Emirates Securities, Al Hamad Contracting Company, National Paints Factories, ORION Holding Overseas, Drake & Scull, Emaar Properties, Jordinvest, Rashid Al Habtoor and Abdelraouf Al Bitar, the statement said.
