Dubai: Du customers will be allowed to update their mobile registration in one of its authorised shops, Axiom, Jumbo, Eros, Jacky’s, E-max and Plug-ins across the emirates, Gulf News has learnt.

In line with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign, all mobile users are required to register their mobile number with a valid Emirates ID or passport with a valid UAE Visa. Customers will need to update and register their documents to avoid disconnection of their mobile network.

Yasser Al Yousuf, director of premium personal market at du, to help facilitate the registration, we already sent an SMS informing around one million subscribers when they need to register their Sim cards and requesting to submit a valid identification document. After which they can visit one of our 250 conveniently located outlets authorised by du to register and update their documentation.

He added: “Du has a total of six million mobile subscribers and the registration process will be managed through six phases.”

Moreover, Al Yousuf clarified that mobile subscribers who failed to update their data, their mobile will be suspended for a period of time but after inviting them through three SMS. If they still did not register during suspension the SIM card will be deactivated and they will not be able to claim back.

“All du clients have to register and renew their personal information.

This is in line with the TRA’s policy regarding the registration requirements for consumer mobile customers, to ensure customers rights and confidentiality are protected, and avoid fraud cases,” he said.

However, Al Yousuf remarked that even du mobile subscribers who didn’t receive SMS from the operators can approach any of its authorised outlets and update their personal information.

Even du’s mobile subscribers who are on a visit visa can register their Sim with any valid UAE visit visa.

“This regulatory step is highly commendable, and we fully support the TRA for its efforts to protect customer interest and enhance customer experience. We are working proactively with agencies to automate the process, further simplifying the registration process. We have taken every measure to make the registration process for Sim cards as simple as possible for our customers, so that they can enjoy a smooth, hassle-free registration no matter where they are in the UAE.”

On the other hand Al Yousuf highlighted that even subscriber who bought their SIM via corporate offers should go for the registration process unless the subscription is made by the firm.
