DOHA: In a unique move, the Doha Bank is offering its customers the facility to make donations to the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) through its country wide ATM network.

The new service was announced at a joint press conference held at the bank attended by its General Manager Salah Mohammad Jaidah and Saleh Ali M Al Mohannadi, Director of Resources Department at QRCS.

Speaking on the occasion, Salah Jaidah said such a facility is introduced in Qatar for the first time. “We had been working on the project for the past three months. We are happy to launch the service in this Holy month of Ramadan that will help our customers make their donations in a simpler and faster manner,” he said.

The service is currently restricted to the bank’s customers but will be expanded to others at a later stage, the official said. The ATM network of the bank currently covers 63 locations in the country.

The service could be availed of by pressing the “other service” button on the ATM screen whereby the QRCS logo will appear on the screen along with the word “donations”. Those who select the service may choose from the amounts shown on the screen or specify any other amount they wish to donate which could then be directly transferred to the QRCS account within a few seconds. The service is however not available on VISA transactions.

Apart from the ATM outlets, bank customers and non-account holders too, can also make their donations at the bank’s counters to the QRCS account No: 51772. Customers can also request the bank to transfer a specific amount to the QRCS account for a specific time period.

While appreciating the bank’s gesture, Saleh Ali Al Mohannadi said the new service would further boost the charitable and humanitarian activities of the society in the form of increased donations. He later told The Peninsula that almost half of the whole donations to the society comes during the Holy month of Ramadan.

R Seetharaman, assistant general manager, support group of the bank, was also present at the press conference.
