BEIRUT: Lebanese director Yehya Saade’s funeral was held Monday at St. Doumit Church Zouk Mikael in Beirut. Saade died Friday while shooting in Izmir, Turkey. He was 35.
Saade was directing a music video for the debut solo album of Lebanese singer Maya Diab when he was electrocuted.
Diab told As-Safir that Saade warned crew against touching electric cables on location in an unused train car at the Alsancak train station. Nevertheless, he lowered his sleeve over one hand and grabbed hold of a cable, apparently to stabilize himself. According to reports, he died shortly after reaching the hospital.
Saade’s body arrived at Beirut-Rafik Hariri International Airport Sunday, greeted by family, friends and fans – all dressed in white at the request of Diab and Saade’s sister Iman Saade.
Diab said she “[wanted] everybody to celebrate Yehya … to receive him in white rather than black [to remember that] he was a man who swam against the tide. We should all gather around him away from sadness and mourning.” – The Daily Star
