SALALAH -- Dhofar Municipality is continuing its efforts to complement a number of projects related to road infrastructure, horticulture, road lighting, public parks and rest houses, said Salim bin Aufit al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, adding that the work on the water sector will start shortly. The implementation of these projects will reinforce the infrastructure and add further aesthetically to Dhofar Governorate as it is acquiring more reputation especially in the tourism sector, Al Shanfari noting that Dhofar Municipality is striving to complete the work on the flyover linking Al Rabat road with Ateen and the flyover linking Al Rabat road with the Salalah-Muscat road and the airport flyover in addition to expanding Al Rabat road. When completed these projects will enhance road capacity and ease traffic congestions in downtown Salalah, Al Shanfari said.

The implementation of these projects is a result of several studies conducted by Dhofar Municipality to improve the internal road network in Salalah and cope up with the increasing traffic movement caused by urban growth in addition to the traffic woes triggered by the rush of visitors and tourists during the Khareef Salalah tourism season, Al Shanfari said. The municipality is currently implementing drainage projects in the governorate including the designing and implementation of a drainage network at the social houses in Al Mazyoun Wilayat and a project to design and implement a drainage network and a compact treatment plant in the Nyabat of Shasr in the Wilayat of Thamrait, Al Shanfari said.
