Dhofar Municipality is implementing several basic infrastructure projects in the governorate, its chairman, Sheikh Salem bin Aufeit al Shanfari has said.

Some of the projects include road expansion, street lighting, landscaping, tree plantations and a water park.

He said that once complete, these projects will go a long way in improving the basic infrastructure and beauty of Dhofar governorate. "The municipality is working to complete the flyover on Ribat Street, another flyover is being built on the Salalah-Muscat road, a new flyover will connected to the airport and Ribat Street is being widened."

Shanfari said these flyovers will ease traffic congestion in Salalah. "These projects were undertaken after technical and feasible studies by the municipality. "The road network in the governorate has come under pressure due to rapid urbanisation and subsequent growth in traffic. The new projects were initiated keeping this in mind.

The new roads will also cater to the huge rush of visitors during the Khareef Festival, he said.

About sanitation services in wilayats across the governorate, Shanfari said, "The municipality strives to improve sanitation services and has undertaken several projects. A sewage network project connecting houses under social development schemes in the wilayat of Al Mazyouna in underway. The 11km project aims to link 150 houses."
