KUWAIT, Nov 15 (KUNA) -- The 6th conference of Arab children's dentists will focus on the use of the new technology of Ozone gas in treating teeth, Health Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah said Wednesday.
Upon opening the conference on behalf of the conference's sponsor, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Sheikh Ahmad said Kuwait has six specialized dentistry centers, including 36 children's clinics, 176 clinics, three students' dentistry centers, and three clinics for people of special needs.
The previous conferences were held in Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia, and holding the 6th one in Kuwait is a proof of the country's care about health, and dentistry in particular, he stressed.
The minister described the Health Ministry's national dentistry program as "ambitious", saying it aims to spread awareness in the community, especially among students.
He pointed out that the conference, whose programs will continue until Nov 17, will discuss several issues in the field of children's dentistry including the use of antibiotics, Ozone gas, and general anesthesia in the treatment of children's teeth.
What is special about this conference is the participation of dentists from Kuwait, other Arab countries, and the United States, he highlighted.
Sheikh Ahmad previewed the history of dentistry in Kuwait, saying the first Kuwaiti dentist started working in the field in 1935 and that the dentistry department of the Amiri Hospital was opened in 1951.
An Amiri proclamation to establish the Faculty of Dentistry in Kuwait University was issued in 1996, and the first class to graduate from it was in 2005, he added.
