Dubai: Twenty-one of the UK's most promising golfers have arrived in Dubai to compete for the coveted Daily Telegraph Junior Championship, over three rounds, at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, starting today.
The event, which is held in conjunction with British Airways, Dubai Duty Free, Emaar, Park Hyatt Dubai and Pepsi, sees players aiming to join an illustrious roll of honour, which includes Andrew Coltart, Justin Rose and Oliver Fisher.
Fisher became the youngest Walker Cup player in history last year.
In the girls' event, Carly Booth returns from 2005, playing off a handicap of +3 and is marked as the favourite to win.
Last year's winner Sally Watson was unable to defend her title due to a busy schedule. She had a call-up to the ladies' GB&I amateur team and an invite to the ladies Scottish Open.
Scratch players Alexandra Peters and Nikki Dunn, last year's finalist, will hopefully not let Carly have it all her own way.
The boys' event witnesses the return of Eamonn 'Stiggy' Hodgson from last year's tournament, playing off +3 and heading the challenge.
Close behind
Close behind is Adam Wills with +2 and Tom Robson and Robert Tradgett, both playing with +1. They will all make sure of a highly competitive three days of action.
The pairing of Joel Neale (DCGYC) and Adam Wills (Saandyway Golf Club), topped the foursomes which saw 11 pairings compete over the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club.
It was a fantastic joint effort of a gross 69 and with their combined handicap being +1, the nett 70 was the slimmest winning margin against the pair of Megahan Coleman and Mecha Cowell's, who had nett 70.5.
