US designer wants to rebrand the dollar to revive the economy and has invited the public to submit designs
Dubai A designer in New York has presented a plan he says will be the “only realistic method for a swift economic recovery: A thorough, in-depth rebranding scheme of the greenback, which hasn’t seen any major design changes since 1930”.
This is why creative strategy consultant Richard Smith has launched the “Dollar ReDe$ign” project, which “hopes to bring about change for everyone”.
Everybody who is interested in giving the good old buck a new face is invited to submit a design. “We want to rebrand the US dollar, rebuild financial confidence and revive our failing economy,” Smith said.
Although the project is highly hypothetical, it has already attracted some interesting designs. One entrant, for example, proposed to carry the picture of Steve Jobs on the $100 note.
Others suggested Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google founder Larry Page, and even Michael Jackson.
Some design proposals included putting an image of George W. Bush on the $1 note, others included the Barbie doll.
Internet voters are invited to decide between dollar notes displaying Barack Obama, Elvis Presley, Sarah Palin or Martin Luther King, among others.
