Citizens of countries who do not require a visa under the U.S. Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) must have a machine readable passport (MRP) from October 10, according to the American Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Twenty-seven countries are currently involved in the VWP. They are Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
This change will affect just the countries involved in visa waiver travel but will include all categories of passports tourists, diplomatic and official.
The VWP nationals, who do not possess the MRPs, must obtain a U.S. non-immigrant visa instead, a press release said.
