About 60,100 tons of copper cathodes were produced in Iran during the first four months of the current Iranian year (started March 21).

Some 45,640 tons of copper cathodes were produced during the first three months of the current year, IRNA reported.

About 15,500 tons of copper cathodes were produced during April 21-May 21.

The report added that 213,500 tons of copper cathodes were produced in Iran last year.

The annual nominal cathode production capacity of Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex is 158,000 tons. Once the second phase of the complex's development plan becomes operational, the figure will hit 260,000 tons.

Studies show the second highest value-added of the country's metal exports pertain to copper.

Iran exported 144,000 tons of copper products worth $597 million last year.

China, Chile and India are the world's major copper producers while China, Japan and South Korea are the main copper consumers.

Iran is among the 15 mineral-rich countries exporting industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, UAE, India and Afghanistan.
