Despite the growing piracy in both software and hardware across the region, Microsoft is upbeat to tap the existing potential by identifying the real potential areas as well as creating awareness through strong distribution channels.
According to estimates the computer-related piracy has been drastically reduced from 87 per cent to 62 per cent in Bahrain in recent years. However, experts believe, the implementation of Intellectual Property Rights Laws, the recently promulgated laws to cope with piracy-related issues, will make this country an attractive business place for the high-tech companies.
To achieve this gigantic task, Microsoft and Kanoo Information Technology have teamed up to explore and enhance the existing OEM market in Bahrain.
The partnership was announced at a press conference addressed by Vimal Sethi, MS country manager Bahrain and Waleed Kanoo general manager Kanoo IT Bahrain and both stressed that the partnership would yield positive results for both parties.
The CEO EK Kanoo Bashar Darkazelli and MS marketing business operations managers were among other officials present during the announcement.
Vimal Sethi said that Bahrain would continue to be an important country for MS due its commitment to ensure the availability of computer-based technology to every one. "We are very much impressed with the best business practices in the wake of Bahrain-US free trade agreement and other initiatives introduced by the government including the e-Government initiative. MS will continue to invest in all vital sectors and ventures including establishing partnerships with local business leaders like Kanoo."
Kanoo Information Technology has been appointed an official Microsoft local distributor in Bahrain. As Microsoft local distributor, Kanoo Information Technology (Kanoo IT) will be responsible for steering the reseller business, increasing OEM product revenue, and helping with the development of the local Bahrain market.
This appointment comes as part of Microsoft's efforts to grow the OEM business, and is one of the core initiatives that Microsoft Gulf's OEM division has been focusing on this year in an effort to develop the local markets in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.
"Distributors are fundamental to the heart of the channel business," said Tolga Altinordu, OEM director, Microsoft Gulf.
He added: "We conducted detailed analysis of the Bahrain market before finally deciding on a local distributor, and I am confident in the Kanoo Information Technology team's ability to fulfill our expectations in the Bahrain market." "As an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solution provider, Kanoo IT provides customized and cost-effective ICT solutions to a diverse clientele ranging from government and private organisations to corporate houses and multinational companies."
With this distribution agreement, Kanoo Information Technology will be focused on the reseller channel and system integrators in Bahrain by stocking, quick delivery and better after-sales services of OEM products," Waleed Kanoo, said. "Kanoo Information Technology will also help the power retailers to position the Microsoft OEM products in a better way to all their customers. We are proud of our association with Microsoft."
Kanoo added: "We are proud to be associated with Microsoft Corporation as their local distributor for OEM Products in the Kingdom of Bahrain. As we are all aware, Microsoft is a world renowned leader in software solutions. Microsoft OEM products consist of all desktop operating systems, server operating systems and office applications."
