MUSCAT - The 2010 edition of computer exhibition titled 'Comex' will open on April 26 at Oman International Exhibition Centre (OIEC). The five-day exhibition will have participation from government, non-government and private enterprises from the Sultanate and abroad. The exhibition will be inaugurated by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al Said.

Event organisers OITE and the Information Technology Authority (ITA) announced this at a press conference yesterday at the Ministry of National Economy. Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, said the Comex 2010 would be different from its previous edition as the world economy is coming back on track after economic meltdown of 2008 and 2009.

"The exhibition is important due to the fact that at least 22 government organisations are taking part in it. The conferences, which have been organised side by side, will see experts from information technology addressing Comex participants," he said. "This year's Comex has grown considerably in size and offers greater number of activities. This year the exhibition has been prepared bearing in mind all segments of society.

For example, there is a special section for children, where they can find a number of attractive and useful technologies, and for families, there is a model of the Smart Home, equipped with a number of digital technologies, " said Dr Salim. Ahmed Saleh Baabood, Executive Chairman of OITE, said: "This year's Comex has been organised with the support and greater involvement of government authorities. Comex 2010 has been organised under an Advisory Committee chaired by Talal al Rahbi, Chief of Information and Awareness Division at the ITA."

Salim bin Hassan al Shanfari, Senior Manager, Media and International Consumer Affairs at Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) said the authority had been participating in the Comex for the last four years and every year "we try to create awareness about telecom rules and regulations among the masses." The highlight of the Comex will be 3rd Government eServices Exhibition. A broad range of government eServices will be on display at the Comex exhibition by various government bodies.

Comex 2010 will play host to over 100 companies from the GCC, the MENA regions and beyond. Comex will present the latest trends in technology, hardware, software, gadgets and consumer electronics for end-users. Comex will also present business solutions that help improve efficiency whilst reducing operational cost. In addition to the exhibition, a conference titled 'Creating synergy and driving development through collaboration and application' and a CIO forum will be held on April 27 and 28 respectively at the Golden Tulip Hotel Seeb.

During the five day event, ICT enthusiasts visiting the expo will have the opportunity not only to test drive the latest gadgets available in the market but, will also get the chance to learn from local, regional and international ICT experts who will present the latest developments, applications and solutions. Visitors will also have opportunity to get first hand information on the modern solutions, systems, technology and applications which are housed in the Shoppers and Business areas.
