MUSCAT: A painting exhibition, 'Colourful Voyage to Oman' hosting the works of Dr Shalini Gupta Kumar opened at the Indian Embassy yesterday.
Anil Wadhwa, ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, inaugurated the exhibition which will be open for the public today from 9am to 1pm and 4 to 8pm at the Indian Embassy.
Dr Abdulla Lamki, deputy managing director, PDO, was the chief guest. Maryam Al Zadjali, director, Omani Society for Fine Arts, and Mundhir Barwani, director, human resources, PDO, were guests of honour.
The artist has used oil and acrylic as media for the 43 paintings on display. Majority of the paintings on display are the artist's tribute to Oman. The collection in the exhibition presents her journey to beautiful culture and colourful landscapes of the Sultanate. "I have travelled to more than 23 countries but ever since I came to Oman, I have been fascinated by the scenic beauty here and have loved to portray the same on my canvas," she said.
Dr Shalini's passion for art started in early childhood. What began as a hobby became a way of life for her.
"I loved sketching from my early childhood, carried it into my school days as a hobby and gradually painting became a passion. My first formal training was in 1982 for oil painting in the City of Taj. Subsequently, I attended many painting workshops and classes in different places," she says.
Workshops
Having been a teacher for few years she has organised art exhibitions for school. She has been certified by Camlin (a premier Arts Product Company) as a tutor to impart professional training to aspiring students and organised many art workshops for ladies.
She is the member of Omani Society for Fine Arts and has been teaching painting voluntarily at the Art Centre in the PDO Club, Muscat.
Dutch artist Andrianu Everson has influenced her the most.
"But I admit that I am privileged to see and learn from the works of the very talented Omani artists," she said.
