Motivate Publishing has launched a new book titled Seafarers of the Emirates by award-winning author, Ronald Codrai.
The book highlights the last years of the seafarers' before the changing times began to change. It was the time when the Gulf could claim to be the home of the largest surviving merchant sailing fleet in the world.
The book contains personal accounts and anecdotes as well as interesting historic facts. It also has around 200 photographs which depict the romantic and ancient ways of the pearl diver, pearl merchant, ship builder and seafarer, that have since been lost to the modern world.
The late Ronald Codrai lived in Dubai and recorded and photograph much of the marine activity at a time when the Emirates was on the threshold of a radical change.
He was the author of some of the most comprehensive photographic accounts of the Arab world during the middle of the 20th century, including The Seven Shaikhdoms, One Second in the Arab World and Faces of the Emirates.
Seafarers is published posthumously as a poignant tribute to his wife. The book is published with the support of the National Bank of Dubai.
