ABU DHABI, 14 Dec, 04 (WAM) - Almarai Company Limited, the region'slargest dairy producer, as main sponsor of Emirates Environmental Group(EEG) announced that Clean Up UAE Day,held on Sunday was a big success.
The Clean Up Day 2004 attracted over 12,000 participants, almost doublethe amount of 6,500 who took part last year, a wonderful tribute to thesuccess of the campaign, now in it's third year. Students, companies aswell as individuals from across 12 cities within the UAE, among them AbuDhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman and Fujeirah, Ras Al Khaimah andAl Silaa, all showed up with a positive attitude, ready to help rid theirenvironment of carelessly thrown out waste. So far, over 57 tons of wastewas collected from the various clean up sites, with a couple of sitesstill tallying up the final amounts, according to a press release.
Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG said, "Taking place on the lastday of the mourning period, this clean up has taken a special meaningfor us. We are dedicating this Clean up UAE to the memory of H.H. SheikhZayed with the solemn pledge to carry on his legacy. More than a President,he was a father and a role model par compare. He wanted all the residentsof this country to live in a happy, secure and healthy environment. Weare mourning his loss not through words, but action. That is what he wouldhave liked."
