Ras Al Khaimah The Ras Al Khaimah Traffic and Licensing Department announced yesterday that driving instructor courses are scheduled to begin on January 10 and already driving instructors have started their registration for the mandatory driving courses.

A senior official at the department said the first phase of this key project will begin by training both male and female instructors for light vehicles.

The official added that the curriculum of the courses has been designed to include six theoretical (oral) sessions and ten practical sessions. The entire training course will last for eight days, after which the drivers will sit for the necessary tests to be granted driving instructor certificates.

The official said a fee of Dh1,130 should be paid by every instructor upon registration. He added that fee is to be settled by the instructors or by their sponsoring driving school directly with the Traffic and Licensing Department.

The official said the department provides three well-qualified trainers to conduct the training for theoretical and practical sessions. The lessons are conducted in four languages and instructors should choose their suitable language.

Second phase

The official said the second phase of the project will include training for driving instructors for heavy vehicle licences. He added that the second phase has been designed carefully for heavy vehicle driving instructors who will be trained in a way that will reflect on the performance of heavy vehicle drivers. These type of drivers are believed to be a key source of traffic accidents and problems in the emirate. He said that the second phase of the project will be announced soon.

The official said the third and last phase of the project targets training bus drivers and that will be a key focus of the project.
