DOHA - The General Directorate of Civil Defence celebrated the launching ceremony of the logo for World Civil Defence Day and the activities of annual awareness festival for this year on Sunday. The motto of the festival is "Civil Defence and safety procedures for people with special needs".

Staff Major General H E Saad Bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, director general of Public Security, H E Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Khalifa, general secretary of the Higher Council for Family Affairs, Rabeea Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of Education Ministry, directors of various security departments at the Ministry of interior, people with special needs and officials from various organisations for the handicapped attended the function organised at the civil defence ground in Azeeziyya.

Student members of "the safety and security team" which was formed in the Independent Schools recently by Civil defence were also present in the function.

Staff Brig Abdullah Muhammed Al Suwaidi, director general of civil defence said that the aim of the celebrations is to bring people with special needs closer and improving awareness among them in addition to understanding their problems and solving them.

H E Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Khalifa in his speech appreciated the efforts of Interior Ministry in achieving safety and security for residents and citizens of this country.

He also referred to the care provided by Qatar for people with special needs expressing that, the Higher Council For Family Affairs under the directives of H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned is devoted to the people with special needs through its programmes, preparing studies and strategies that inspire organisations to take necessary actions to provide various services for people with special needs.

A film, dealing with the problems of people with special needs, "The right of reaching", produced by the National Council for Family Affairs, was screened. A mock demonstration for rescuing persons with special needs was presented by the civil defence personnel.
