A new 100-storey building will tower over its neighbours on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road by 2016, it was confirmed on Tuesday.
And the new Entisar Tower will include something of a first for the city's high-end apartment blocks - an indoor running track and tennis courts. Developer Meydan group used the opening day of Cityscape to announce the release of 444 serviced apartments for sale in the new tower.
The building, to be constructed on a plot across the road from the Dubai World Trade Centre site, will be one of the first freehold buildings on the famous thoroughfare, according to its developer.
"A lot of people would basically like to live on Sheikh Zayed Road but the only accommodation that is available is basically rental," Mohammed Nasser Al Khayat, the firm's head of commercial and free zone said on Tuesday.
Asked about the novelty of the indoor running track, he explained: "We have been hearing a lot that people would like to jog in their development itself, because of the humidity and heat. But it is not meant to be like a marathon - it is more for a sprint."
He said the apartments in the building - which will also house a hotel - will cost between Dhs2,500 and Dhs3,500 a square foot, "depending on the view". "Today to buy an apartment like that in London you would be looking at £1000 to £2000 pounds a square foot - this is not even £500," Al Khayat said.
