Carpet exports to China has increased since 10 years ago, said head of Iran-China Chamber of Commerce.
Asadollah Asgarouladi told Mehr News Agency that it indicated Chinese have embraced Iranian carpets.
Silk rugs from Isfahan and Tabriz and second-hand carpets which are sold cheaper have penetrated into Chinese market, he added.
Since Chinese families currently live in bigger houses, they need more hand-woven carpets, he said recalling that Iranian carpets were put on display in Urumchi Fair five years ago for the first time, in which all of top hand-woven carpets were sold out.
Since then, Iran has annually taken part in Urumchi fair, he said.
One pavilion of Expo China Fair was allocated to Iran for six months in which top hand-woven carpets and tableau carpets were sold, he explained.
Asgarouladi urged the Hand-Woven Carpet Union, Iran's Carpet Company, and Iran National Carpet Center to launch permanent fairs in China.
Currently, businesspersons from Japan and Qom have launched permanent and mobile fairs in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing which will attract Chinese customers, he said.
He noted that Mongolians and Turkmens produce low-cost carpets which cannot be compared with high-quality Iranian carpets.
In addition, Iran exports machine-made carpets, mouquette and other floor coverings to China, he said.
Canada and Mexico are main re-exporters of Iranian hand-woven carpets to US in spite of Western sanctions, he pointed out.
Iran is also negotiating with Latin America on exporting hand-woven carpets, he said.
Parliamentary Carpet Faction Urged
Meanwhile, head of National Union of Hand-Woven Carpet Weavers and Producers said carpet industry does not have any faction in Majlis.
Esmaeel Chamani told ISNA that formation of an Iranian carpet faction would help enforcing unified management and policy for the country's carpet industry.
He said the National Iranian Carpet Center should be promoted into a national carpet organization.
Today, Iranian hand-woven carpet is so famous worldwide that it does not need any publicity, he concluded.
