China’s BGP Awarded Seismic Projects In Eastern Saudi Arabia
China’s BGP has been awarded three seismic survey projects worth a combined $300mn by Saudi Aramco. Project S53 is a Transition Zone (TZ) 3D seismic data acquisition project that is to begin this month and will last for around two years. The survey area is covered by shoals and shallow water, and includes part of the Manifa oil field and several urban districts. Project S63 is a 2D onshore seismic survey in the desert. It is to begin in November 2009 and will be completed in around four years. Project S64 is a TZ 2D seismic survey that will also begin this month and will finish in 15 months. The survey area includes water to a depth of 1,700ms, shallow water, shoals, island and desert.
BGP completed TZ project S52 for Saudi Aramco in June, consisting of a 3D seismic survey in the Berri field and 2D work in the Manifa field. The survey included the acquisition of 2,300 sq km of 3D seismic and 1,000 km of 2D data over an area near Abuali island, and took 27 months to complete.
