Dubai motorists will soon be able to avoid congested roads thanks to a new traffic information system.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to instal public information kiosks to provide drivers with real-time traffic information.

Each kiosk will contain a touchscreen computer connected to the main RTA control centre from where traffic data will be transmitted.

Motorists will be able to get the latest reports on congested roads by simply entering the name of a road. The system will enable motorists to plan their route on the less congested roads.

An RTA official said the kiosks will be installed in shopping malls, petrol stations and at roadsides where they can be easily accessed. "The idea of the information kiosks is to make it easy for people to know which roads are congested so that they can avoid them," he said.

Kenny Goldberg, a 38-yearold American engineer, said the system will help him to plan his movements better.
