KUWAIT: Carrefour, the world's second largest retailer yesterday announced the opening of its first store in Kuwait. Located in the brand new mall - Avenues, the Carrefour store will stretch over 11,000 square meters and will offer customers over 50,000 products establishing it as one of the country's largest hypermarket. The store will open for public from Tuesday.
The new store in Kuwait is Carrefour's 23rd store in the Middle East. Started in 1995 as a joint venture between Majid Al-Futtaim Group and Carrefour, this retailer has a strong presence in UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. It is one of the most dynamic, fast-moving hypermarket chains in the region. More than 9,000 highly motivated employees from 37 different nationalities have contributed to the growth of the Carrefour brand throughout the last decade. In the 2006 alone the company served over 55 million customers in the region.
"MAF Hypermarket is recognized as one of the most active hypermarket chains through the region. Carrefour offers shoppers in Kuwait the same quality, choice and best prices that has made it a household name to millions over the world," said Franck Moreau, General Manager, Carrefour Kuwait. The new store has covered convenient free parking space, 50 cash counters and over 500 professionally trained staff to ensure that customers have an enjoyable and hassle-free shopping experience.
Speaking at the opening Moreau added: "Kuwait is a very important market for Carrefour, we are excited about the opening of our new store and look forward to serving the customers. This outlet is comparable to the Carrefour hypermarkets in Europe in terms of layout and other aspects such as food, safety and hygiene."
Carrefour Kuwait will house different sections that include the Bakery and Pastry that prepares and bakes fresh bread and pastry several times a day. The Fruits and Vegetables section that offers a large variety of local and imported fruits and vegetables. The Butchery and Fishery, Roastery, Deli and Cheese section excel in variety and freshness. "Our Consumer Goods, Heavy and Light Household and the Textile section offers products at competitive prices that make shopping at Carrefour an unforgettable experience," added Franck Moreau.
Established in France, Carrefour International is considered to be the first retailer in Europe, and rates the second largest chain worldwide with more than 12,000 Hypermarkets and Supermarkets spreading over more than 30 countries, with a large number of employees.
