Dubai Adding to the events of the 10th Dubai Shopping Festival, the organisers have come up with yet another first: the Car Boot Sale on Al Muraqqabat Street.
The concept was developed along the lines of a garage sale, the difference being that people will sell their products from the boot of their cars rather than from a stall.
Participants are welcome to display all kinds of household items including electronic appliances, books, clothes (new and used) and other knickknacks all from the boot of their cars.
They will also be allowed to sell food items and magazines that are based in the UAE.
"Today, due to the spread of consumerism, every household is filled with unnecessary items," said Jassim Al Awadhi, head of the Shopping Festival's Al Muraqqabat committee.
"The Car Boot Sale not only gives bargain hunt-ers fresh opportunities to find many treasures, but also gives families an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted items for a profit."
All items sold are expected to be in good condition, and the participation terms require families selling food to follow health guidelines.
Sales of video cassettes, CDs and DVDs are not allowed.
Al Awadhi expects a huge number of people of many nationalities will participate in this sale during the weekends.
"This goes well with our message of 'One World, One Family, One Festival'."
The boot sales, which will run from January 13 until the end of the Shopping Festival, will be conducted every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4pm to midnight during the month-long celebrations.
A non-refundable fee of Dh50 per car will be charged for an evening.
