The global headquarters of Abu Dhabi based International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) and Siemens Middle East Headquarters add prestige to Masdar City.

Irena headquarters

The 33,000 square-metre complex is Masdar City’s cornerstone development.

•Generates 8.5 per cent of onsite power using rooftop photovoltaic panels.

•Solar water heaters supply 75 per cent of the building’s hot water demand.

•Energy demand is reduced by 42 per cent compared to global energy-efficiency standards and 64 per cent compared to a typical building in Abu Dhabi.

•Air conditioning system recovers 75 per cent of the energy released in the exhaust air and uses this energy to cool incoming fresh air.

•Reduce water usage by 48 per cent compared to a typical Abu Dhabi building.

•Supports Abu Dhabi’s green-supply chain and uses low-carbon, sustainable materials, including recycled steel and recycled-content aluminium.

By 2014, over1,000 staff will move into Siemens’ new Middle East headquarters.

8.5% of onsite power will be generated using rooftop photovoltaic panels.

Over 90% of construction waste was diverted from landfills.

75% of hot water will be generated from solar water heaters.

Received numerous architectural awards, including the Iconic Award 2013 by the German Design Council and two 2012 Middle East Architects Awards.

Passive cooling methods channel air throughout the building, preventing the typical condensation that often create structural problems in UAE buildings.
