Dubai, Apr.8th,2006 (WAM) -- The British University in Dubai,one of the region's foremost research institutions, is to extendits work in the field of economics, following the appointmentof Dr. Kostas Giannopoulos as the head of the Institute of Financeand Banking.
A number of financial institutions in the region have expressedstrong interest in the research that will be conducted by theinstitute, including studies of the extension of Shariah-compliantfinance, the impact of new stock exchanges and the role of specialeconomic zones within Middle East markets.
Perhaps the most remarkable work of Giannopoulos has beenthe creation of the pioneering market risk model (Filtered HistoricalSimulation) that he developed in association with The LondonClearing House.
"Many international financial observers have noted that the MiddleEast's finance and banking sectors are undergoing perhaps themost interesting period of change and volatility yet recorded,"said Dr. Giannopoulos.
