KUWAIT: A three-day British Trade Exhibition began on Monday at the Salwa Sabah Hall in Salmiya. The exhibition, being held under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, was jointly inaugurated by Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad Al-Haroun and Minister of Oil and Information Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sabah, along with British Ambassador to Kuwait Frank Baker.

Before cutting the ceremonial ribbon, students from the British School of Kuwait sang both the Kuwaiti and British national anthems. The ministers tour began with a look at the luxury car collection on display in the lobby of Salwa Sabah Hall, which includes remarkable vintage Jaguar, Aston Martin and Bentley models. The event showcases almost every sector, from education, training, medical, retail, finance and engineering to luxury cars and boats.

After touring the exhibition, Al-Haroun briefly spoke with local media, lauding the excellent bilateral ties between Kuwait and the UK, which he said are growing rapidly and continue to go from strength to strength. "This exhibition is one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated in Kuwait and we are keen on promoting such events," he said.

The volume and quality of the products being displayed reflects the great and historic relations between the two countries. We have high regard for British products as they are among the best, if not on top, in every field, from industry to real estate, tourism and humanitarian work," he explained.

Also speaking with reporters during the event, Ambassador Baker expressed pleasure at Kuwaitis' appreciation for British products and services. "We showcase the best of UK products every two years in Kuwait. This is a great opportunity for Kuwait to see what British has to offer, technologically, commercially and economically," he said. "This shows the real strength of our bilateral relations between UK and Kuwait stretching back nearly two centuries.

The envoy also expressed pride at the 25 percent increase in trade and investment between the two countries in 2010 alone. "Our trade and investments are growing rapidly, they're a symbol of the lasting deep relationship which is of vital importance to our two governments and peoples. We especially thank Kuwaitis and expatriates who highly value our products," said the ambassador. "British retail brands are also doing very well in Kuwait, such as Boots, Debenhams, Top Shop, Next, etc. I encourage everyone
to see what the UK has to offer at our exhibition. I am sure that exhibitors and visitors will enjoy it and find it worthwhile.

The first day witnessed a substantial number of VIP visitors from various companies, including several CEOs and executives from some of the different companies participating in and sponsoring the exhibition.
