The Meydan Group is expected to award the construction contract for its USD 350 million Entisar tower on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, by first week of December 2014, a top official told Zawya Projects in an exclusive interview.

"Eight bidders have submitted [bids] and the technical and commercial document evaluation have been completed. The main contractor award is expected by first week of December 2014," said the source close to the project.

He said the bidders' list includes Al Fara'a General Contracting Company, TAV Construction, Arabtec Construction, El Seif Engineering Contracting, Kele Contracting LLC and China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

"It is currently [for] the client to decide how many contractors to negotiate with and interview," added the source.

The tender for the main construction contract was floated on 10 June and the closing date for submission was 3 August, which was later extended to August 24, 2014.

Also known as the Meydan Tower, the 112-storeyed building will include 200 standard and 244 serviced apartments, as well as a hotel with 112 keys, which will be managed by the Meydan Hospitality.

Additionally, it will have a 250-meter indoor running track, two tennis courts and a community tower with nine swimming pools.

The tower will be one among the five proposed tallest buildings being developed.

According to the Council on Tall buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) database, 19 buildings of the 100 completed tallest buildings in the world are based in Dubai; of which four are under construction and another five are proposed developments.

AE7 is the design and lead consultants on the project while Buro Happold is the supervision consultant.

Construction on the project is set to commence in the first quarter of 2015, with scheduled completion in Q2 2018.
