Dubai A court yesterday dropped a bounced cheque charge against Emirati businessman Abid Al Boom after the complainant waived his accusation.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours dropped the charge that Al Boom had signed a cheque for Dh375,000, which bounced, after Al Boom settled the dispute with the claimant.

“The court has dismissed the case against Abid Al Boom after the case was dropped by the plaintiff,” said Presiding Judge Zakaria Al Abed in courtroom five.

Last week, in a separate matter, the Dubai Appeals Court upheld a one-year prison sentence handed down to Al Boom, owner of Abid Al Boom Management and Development Properties, in relation to another cheque. The sentence was for signing a cheque that had bounced due to insufficient funds. His bail was also cancelled.
