Abu Dhabi: Considered to be a reflection of a milestone, the book which demonstrates how far the Louvre Abu Dhabi has come in its collection of artworks, will be distributed internationally and within the UAE, officials in the capital revealed.

Entitled ‘Birth of a Museum’ the book which holds the same name as the Louvre exhibition launched in April of this year, documents the 300 artefacts, paintings and sculptures belonging to the museum’s permanent collection which will be seen during its opening in 2015.

“We have worked together with our partners in France to develop the content and arrange the pieces in a manner that reflects the message we are sending. Therefore, the book is regarded not only as a documentation of our efforts, but of the stage at which the Louvre Abu Dhabi has reached towards its completion,” said Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Project Manager, Hessa Al Dhaheri.

The Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA-AD) initially revealed the first 19 artworks of the museum’s ever-growing collection in 2009. Afterwards, the ‘Talking Art Series’ acted as a podium for contributors to the project to share their experiences with members of the public. However, the project was first set into motion in 2007.

“During the two years (between 2007 and 2009), we planned and strategised the vision with which we wanted to represent the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Our theme is universalism. This is why visitors can see artworks from different countries and cultures juxtaposed in relation to one another, representing how similar concepts differ and unite as a complete time line across the globe,” Al Dhaheri told Gulf News.

A complementary copy of the book will soon fill UAE universities in order to educate students on Abu Dhabi’s artistic and cultural monument.

Currently, students from schools and universities in Abu Dhabi visit the Birth of a Museum exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat on an almost daily basis, according to officials. The exhibition currently displays 130 artworks from countries including Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Mali and is running until July 20.

Visitors can enter free of charge from 10 am Until 8 pm daily.
