MUSCAT -- The competitiveness of Oman's economy has shown remarkable improvement in recent years. However, despite a greatly increased trade balance, cross-border mobility for Omani start-ups and SMEs still needs attention as does levels of research, technological development and innovation, suggests His Highness Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, COO, Brand Oman Management Unit (BOMU) and organiser of the newly-formed 'Inside Stories' seminar programme.

'Inside Stories' is a series of invite-only knowledge sharing seminars designed by BOMU to discuss and find ways of improving national competitiveness, boost domestic levels of entrepreneurship and research, and enhance cross-border mobility for Oman's business community. Over the coming months 'Inside Stories' will examine industry, services, research and technology, education, energy, tourism and culture; and aims to help produce positive development ideas for the entire Omani economy.

Monday's 'Inside Stories' keynote speaker is Jack Lang, angel investor and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Judge Institute, Cambridge University and Fellow of Emmanuel College. Joining Lang on the panel is Graham Porter, Cisco; Dr Mohammed al Mugheiry, The Research Council; and local telco-entrepreneur, Dr Firas al Abduwani. According to BOMU's Maymuna al Adawy and 'Inside Stories' Project Manager: "By drawing on international and domestic expertise 'Inside Stories' aims to help Oman accelerate its transition to a knowledge economy by promoting innovation and the role of research and technology in the country's development.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are driving national competitiveness right across the globe. Put simply, we want to bring that kind of thinking to a broader domestic audience." "Having someone of Jack's calibre speak at 'Inside Stories' is marvellous," smiles the BOMU COO.
