Sharjah Municipality has been engaged in a marathon cleaning campaign in various parts of the emirate - especially the industrial areas to remove rubbish and rusting cars dumped in the areas to improve the look of the city.
Abdullah Al Nabudah, Head of Solid Waste Section of Sharjah Municipality, said the campaign was part of the periodic programmes implemented by the Public Service Station to improve the city's overall image.
He said, quoting the monthly report of the waste section, that the municipality's staff annihilated insects, pests and rodents at the areas of their origin and growth - wells, tanks, stalls, markets and garbage bins.
"Pesticides were sprayed in residential areas, schools, hospitals and mosques," he said.
"A Cleanness and Maintenance Campaign is taking place at entrance and exit points of the Industrial Area and its internal roads.
"This is part of our policy of developing and keeping clean the internal roads of the city. A big number of roads are paved and numerous pot holes in the same area filled," Abdullah said.
He said the municipality periodically carries out the levelling and paving of inter nal routes of the new areas with specialised equipment. The municipality also works hard to fix the ground and limit the dispersal of dust.
The section also destroy and remove old buildings to make room for new construction plans.
The residuals of the demolished sites are transferred to remote dumping areas. In July alone, about 47,000 tonness of residuals were sent to the new waste area from Al Sagaa and disposed through burying and hygienic embedding.
Drivers and workers of the public service section removed a huge load of rocks from different locations in 21 big trucks.
In addition, a lot of liquid waste and drainage rubbish were removed using 5,288 big trucks.
The Public Service Section also sent 519 notices to various violators of public hygiene and cleanliness in the city.
Those who did not respond to the notices were served with warning notices and messages.
About 274 violators were booked by the section. The Municipality also called upon citizens and expatriates not to breach the rules because such acts deform the city and cause traffic accidents.
The section removed 57 rock loads, and 547 loads from different areas were sent to the dumping yards.
