MUSCAT -- Bahwan Engineering Company (BEC) has achieved the transition of its existing Quality Management System to the latest edition ISO-9001:2008 covering "Project Management and Construction activities comprising Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, HVAC and Plumbing work associated with Oil and Gas, Power, Industrial, Residential and Commercial Projects in Gulf Region".
It also includes BEC's Elevator & Escalator operation for "Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning, Service & Maintenance and Modernisation of Elevators, Escalators, Travolators, Dumbwaiters, Baggage handling equipment and Passenger boarding bridges". The certificates were handed over to S K Virmani, Managing Director of BEC by Shakir Rasheed, Chief Executive of Bureau Veritas, which is a leading certification agency in the Middle East.
For more than three decades, BEC has been associated with nation-building projects in Oman. BEC, with more than 10,000 employees including more than 450 engineers, is one of the largest contracting companies executing integrated multi-disciplinary EPC and construction projects, and facilities management contracts in Oman and UAE.
BEC has successfully completed projects for several prestigious clients including ministries, government organisations and international contractors from the world around. Some of the prestigious projects of BEC include major construction of Oman LNG & Qalhat LNG Projects, Diesel Hydro Desulphurisation for Oman Refinery, several Power and Desalination Plants in Oman and the UAE, Sur and Ibra Hospitals, Sohar Seawater Intake & Return System, several substations and elevator projects in Oman and the UAE.
Among the recently completed other major projects are PDO Marmul Polymer Flood and Sohar Fertilizer Plant, Sharqiya Desalination Plant, Barka Independent Power & Desalination Plant while PDO Saih Rawl Depletion Compression and Salalah Methanol projects are in advance stages of completion.
BEC has been recently awarded the largest MEP contract for infrastructure development of Muscat International Airport. The MEP works include 34,000 tonnes Cooling Plant, 40 MVA of standby Power Generation, 3 Nos 132/11 kV Substations and 70 Nos 11 kV/415V secondary substations, 350 km of cabling, 24 km of chilled water Piping, Services for 22 Nos Ancillary Utility Buildings, and so on.
BEC was the first company in its category to achieve ISO 9000 certification in 1995. Since then its Quality Management System has been consistently meeting the ever changing requirements of latest editions of ISO 9000 standards. BEC has set and consistently maintained high standards of Quality and HSE in the projects it delivers and has always strived to improve these through effective QHSE Management Systems.
