Empretec Jordan, a programme devised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and managed by the Business Development Centre (BDC), held its 26th entrepreneurial training workshop last week with support from the National Fund for Enterprise Support. The 16 students who successfully participated in the workshop brought the total number of Empretec graduates to date to 548. The six-day workshop included activities and exercises based on methods which have been scientifically proven to develop and improve entr?preneurial behaviour and skills. Participants included current owners of small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) as well as aspiring entrepreneurs who want to transform their ideas into reality. Nayef Stetieh, president and chief executive officer of BDC, met with the Empretec participants during the workshop, highlighting the importance of developing these specific entrepreneurial behaviours.
Stetieh indicated that entrepreneurial endeavours represent 97 per cent of all businesses in Jordan. A study co?ducted by BDC on workshop graduates estimates that, on average, the training of an SME owner will create 2.5 additional jobs and the training of an aspiring entrepreneur will create 3.3 jobs in the 4-5 months following successful completion of the workshop.
