ERBIL - On his personal face book account, Kurdistan region president, Massoud Barzani asks the public of Kurdistan to express their views over two issues.
Barzani wrote he would like to know what the public thinks of the decision of the opposition parties for giving up negotiations with the ruling parties.
Three oppositional parties in the Kurdistan region called for government resignation early 2011. After series of negotiations, the calls for reform were renewed. Late December the opposition decided to boycott the negotiations with the two ruling parties, Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Barzani and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
Barzani also wondered what is the position of the public regarding the results of an investigation in a recent turmoil in Duhok province.
On Dec.2 a mob attacked and burnt hotels, massage parlors and liquor shops in Zakho, Duhok. The public was said to be provoked by a clergy during Friday prayer. Later the headquarters of an oppositional party, Kurdistan Islamic Union, were set alight by another mob.
KDP accused the KIU to be behind provoking the mob and the KIU accused KDP supporters of burning their officers.
The investigation committee found that the public was incited to stage the attacks and the security did not handle the situation well.
