The Tenders Board yesterday opened 38 tenders for various projects at it weekly meeting at Bahrain International Exhibition Centre. The Ministry of Electricity and Water led the field with 14 bids ranging from the laying of pipelines to upgrading of equipment.

The most expensive project quoted for was the 66KV cable installation which attracted bids of BD968,475 (the lowest) to BD1,947,526 (the highest) and the GT hot gas casing reconditioning at Riffa power station for which Alstom and Al Khajah Establishment submitted bids of BD64,000 and BD73,000, respectively. The University of Bahrain’s project to buy 300 computers attracted over 15 companies which put in bids ranging from BD158,000 to BD 95,000.

The General Organisation for Youth and Sports had three projects that were bid on: Al Ahli Club artificial turf football field, lighting systems, preventive maintenance in stadiums and multipurpose sports flooring in Al Hala Club. Tender values ranged from BD600,000 which was the highest for the lighting system maintenance to BD304,386 for the football field and BD52,960 for Al Hala project.

The Ministry of Education had three projects out to tender of which one was suspended. The other two were the cleaning of 24 schools and asphalting of school playgrounds and yards. The price tag on these ranged from BD192,374 (the highest for the asphalting) to BD19,566 (the lowest for the cleaning of the schools). Six Central Stores bids were opened for the supplies of goods with the highest value being placed on the supply of filters at BD241,060.

Three Customs, Ports and Free Zones Affairs tenders were opened ranging in value from BD190,764 to BD36,000.

The Directorate of Agriculture had two bids opened for computer hardware maintenance and irrigation material, while the Ministry of Works and Housing opened one for sewage treatment at Al Dur. A tender was opened for the decorating of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority office and two for Civil Aviation Authorities’ involving access to the VIP Lounge at the airport and the Bahrain airspace restructuring – the last saw only one company from Germany bidding for the job and quoting EU584,074.
