The foundation piling work, at the $110 million Tala Island site, started yesterday at a ceremony held at the Amwaj Islands project site in the northern tip of Muharraq.
The foundation work for the 48 units of the Phase I project will be completed within seven weeks by Keller, a Bahrain-based company.
The Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa had officially laid the foundation stone in April this year for both $110m Tala Island and $40m Al Marsa (the floating City), marking the launch of the two projects which are key components of Amwaj Islands.
Present at the ceremony were Mohammed Al Tawash, member Tala board and CEO of Al Khaleej Development Company (Tameer); Laith Al Ma'meer, member of Tala board, Karim Shamma, Project Manager Tala Island, Mohammed Abdulkhaliq, Marketing Director of the project and representatives from the contractors.
Al Tawash said that Tala Island Company has signed contracts with a group of leading consultants such as
Davenport Architectural Consultants, Hyder Structural Consultants, Gemac Electro Mechanical Consultant and Coast Partnership Quantity Surveyors. Phase I of the project would be completed by the end of 2005.
Laith said: "We had invited nine contractors, both local and international companies, who are specialists in construction and development projects. We have taken all measures to meet the deadline of the projects and the contractors are expected to deliver the units to the buyers by the end of 2005," he said.
Total area of Tala Island is 110,000 square metres and the project will have 88 villas with areas ranging between 190 square metres to 520 square metres. Some on them will have private beaches and some others will be sharing public beaches. It also contained building up to four-storey in height not to hinder to views of the entire projects.
Total number of apartments will be 561 with areas ranging between 90 square metres to 320 square metres. The apartments will be from one bedroom to four bedrooms. Marina apartments and luxury apartments areas will range between 280 sq metres to 600 sq metres.
Karim Shamma said that the infrastructure of the project including roads, lighting sewerage, electricity, water and telecommunications will be completed by beginning of 2005.
Mohammed Abdulkhaliq, Director Marketing, said: "We have already completed 75 per cent of the phase I and II of Tala Island project. "The sale is still going on and demand is very high for the available units. For the convenience of our clients we have developed a dedicated website tala-amwaj.com, which provides full information about the project including the layout and pricing details etc. for individual buyers," he said.
Tala Project Development WLL has a partnership deal with Tameer and Ossis Company. It was established with $10 million capital to develop and market units of Tala Island, which contains a total of 561 apartments and 88 villas and is expected to be completed by 2007.
