The draft proposal for the advertisement law was discussed by the joint committee of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment.

The law will classify advertisements into two categories – promotional and awareness – and specify a fee for advertising licence, requirements and precautions. The meeting was chaired by the representative from the BCCI, Abdulrahman Yousif Fakhro. It was the committee’s fourth meeting. “The chamber has proposed the draft to regulate advertising. The law will play a vital part in the commercial industry of the Kingdom,” said Fakhro. “The law will specify a fee for advertising as followed in neighbouring countries, to push the industry to spend more money on advertising,” he said.

The proposed law will be discussed with the ministry and a final law forwarded to Legal Affairs at the BCCI. “The final copy will then be discussed by the BCCI Board of Directors and then presented to the joint committee of the chamber and ministry,” he said.

The meeting also discussed issues related to the Technical National Committee to revise the construction law. The committee was formed by a ministerial order and the chamber is part of it.

“The chamber is interested in reviewing and updating the law and we have a vision that needs to be completed,” said Fakhro. “Our main idea is to have a complete planning of all the construction and projects in the country to pave way for further development in the right areas,” he said.

The chamber has proposed to simplify the procedures for the payment of municipality fees, develop the construction licence, classify agricultural areas, develop and bolster investments by private sectors in projects related to municipalities and environment and come up with a policy to classify municipality-related advertisement.

The committee members include Mohammed Ebrahim Kanoo, Mirza Essa Al Sammak, Hassan Ahmed Al Mudaifa, Sameer Abdullah Nass, Abdulai Abdulaziz Al Aali, Abdullah Abdulkarim Al Mulla, Fathi Farej Al Mahmood, Mubarak Binali Al Jowder, Riyadh Al Mahroos and Tariq Ahmed Kamal.
