The Good Word Society is to launch a new project entitled 'Recycle IT' which seeks to recycle computer devices and IT equipment.
The project is being launched under the patronage of First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. It is intended to promote a greener environment and help young people develop certain important skills.
The project is also intended to achieve several national, charitable, educational and socially responsible objectives and is the winner of the e-Government Excellence Awards 2010 for the best econcept.
Commenting on the project, Chairman of the Organising Committee Ahmed Buhazza, stated: "Shaikh Nasser's patronage of the project reflects the need to encourage civil society and the private sector to adopt initiatives and back government efforts aimed at human development, providing new job opportunities and protecting the environment."
The chairman added that one of the main perspectives of the project is a deep belief in the homeland and loyalty towards the country and its wise leadership. "We must participate in the development process and defend the environment, sea, water, trees, air and soil, as well as emphasise our attachment to the values of Arab culture and the Islamic religion."
He confirmed that 'Recycle IT' will be a leading project in terms of human capital development as it will focus on training and recruiting young Bahrainis, while seeking a solution to the problem of IT waste.
The project will seek to promote the safe discarding of old computers and other devices and will seek to reuse and recycle as many of such products as possible.
The project also includes the training of underprivileged persons. They will be taught how take apart and build computers - a skill that will open up new job opportunities for them within the private sector.
