Women's empowerment in all areas will be the focus of a two-day conference which opens at the Children and Mothers Welfare Society (CMWS) today. Arab experts will speak on the 'Role of Civil Societies in Women's Empowerment' in the political, social, economic and cultural areas. The event will be held under the patronage of the Shura Council Chairman, Dr Faisal Radhi Al Mousawi. Dr Fatima Al Qubaisi from Qatar will speak on women's position in the cultural sector, with a focus on the ethics cultural societies adopt and to which extend the ethics are democratic in their application. Dr Badriya Awadhi from Kuwait will speak on the sub-topic 'Position of Civil Societies on Training on Gender and Law in the Society Relating to Women.'
The second paper by Dr Nahwan Al Qaderi of Lebanon will focus on 'Prevailing Media in the Culture of Social Societies', followed by discussions on civil societies and challenges in women's empowerment in the light of globalisation. Lebanese expert Dr Adeeb Nama from UNDP will continue the discussion with a paper on the effects of foreign support for the empowerment of women in society. The third paper will be on 'Political and Economic Empowerment of Women, to be presented by Dr Ali Al Tarah from Kuwait. It will be followed by discussions on the role of networks for empowering women, political empowerment of women and areas of decision-making.
The conference will conclude with a panel discussion on women vis-a-vis their Arab and global experience. In the panel discussion, Rabiya Al Naseri of Morocco will present a paper on 'Empowerment of Women from human aspect', Dr Noora Al Masaed of Saudi Arabia on 'A case study on the Arab women', and Egyptian expert Dr Fatima Al Khasaji from UNDP on global experience in the empowerment of women. Supreme Council of Women member Rabab Al Arrayed, will speak on policies of women empowerment in Bahrain and the role of civil societies in the council's programme.
